I wish my warm covers were over me right now. I wish I was waking up to realize it was just 1:00 am and then quickly snuggle back under my covers.
Instead, I am sitting with my laptop on my lap (isn’t that where it belongs, anyway?) Hoping I can get halfway into my project’s goal plan before my eyes close for the night, I am taking a quick moment to self- distract via this post. Part of it is a result of procrastination. Things add up and catch up with us at a time when we least want them to. I can hear someone judge me for being lazy, unfocused, negligent or just being a poor personal time manager. No, that’s not the case! I just failed to recognize what I had to prioritize over the other. I was working hard all along, but the timelines and deadlines were not well orchestrated.
What am I trying to say, before I return to my, yet, long night?
- Much as we would like to impress, let’s learn to promise just as much we can deliver regardless of what opinions we fear might be formed about us.
- It’s okay to have more than we can handle, but it’s very important that we prioritize and concentrate on what’s more urgent ( temporarily blocking out important, but less urgent tasks) .
- If we can’t make the deadline, unless it’s a make-or-break situation, it’s better we promptly update the expecting party about our shortcomings and delays, and then diligently work towards delivering according to our renegotiated deadline. That way, quality and integrity may always equally maintained.
- Treat ourselves to a rewarding sleep-in if we think we overstretched ourselves for a while and it might deplete us of our creative and physical energy. And oh, yes, get that one dish we promised to treat ourselves to once we complete a major gruesome project.
Shhhh… here I am reaching out for the poor kettle again so I can make myself one more delicious cup of coffee to see me though that final round of the night. If you’re reading this at this moment (and you’re within my time zone) chances are we have a similar routine or PROBLEM? Yes, PROBLEM!
The best thing of all is that I work in my PJs so I can just fall asleep anytime and will not have any apologies (to myself) come dawn.
Adios!
